Let’s face it, there’s no shortage of places to be photographed in metro Atlanta. So of all the places to choose from, why choose das Hinterhaus? For starters, I’m of the opinion that when people feel comfortable and at home, they’re more relaxed and at ease. From that sense of ease comes the opportunity to create real, candid, natural and emotive images. The Hinterhaus is just the place to make you feel cozy and right at home. It’s a place where kids can be free to explore and make messes. Moms can relax, enjoy the beauty of her surroundings and the company of her children. It’s a place to create experiences and a place that creates a magical, vintage-inspired backdrop. Not to mention, it’s in the backyard of Melanie Dalton Photography- literally in my backyard. Need a potty break (if you’re pregnant you probably do), glass of water or just a second to cool off in the AC? I’ve got ya!

So you’ve made the biggest step and booked the session. You’ve decided on das Hinterhaus as the backdrop, but now you’re left with the decision of what to wear. Some people might argue that this is the hardest step. I find it to be the funnest step! Whatever opinion you share, rest in the knowledge that I’m here to guide you. You don’t have to make these decisions alone- I’m here to help.
What’s most important to remember when choosing to shoot in the greenhouse is IT’S A GREENHOUSE. It’s casual and earthy, natural and imperfect- your clothes can be reflective of that. Think about what you’d wear to pot plants with your kids and then step it up a notch. If you’re willing to show bare belly, consider a pair of flowy pants and a cami. A floor length skirt and cropped tee would look cute as well. Even a pair of unbuttoned jean shorts with a cami or cropped tee would be cute. Be casual, yet put together. Lifestyle based images require simple clothes- nothing formal. Not sure what colors to choose? Stick with neutrals- whites, beiges, browns, rusts, grays and greens. Avoid bright colors and/or bold patterns. Less is more!

Any time we choose to incorporate an activity into the images- be it potting plants, eating dessert or juicy watermelon- we’re delving in to the world of lifestyle photography. We’re incorporating an event you’d do on any given day normally, and using that event to create meaningful, dreamy and emotive images. What could be easier? You’re doing something your family enjoys, kids are making a mess and feeling free to be themselves, and you’re doing what’s easiest for you- loving on them! Sounds like a win for everyone- me included. Because while you make those messes and have a great time, I’m gently guiding you and moving myself in such a way as to create the beautiful art you’re hoping for. We’re making art without ever feeling like you had to work too hard for it. What could be better?

Don’t worry for a second about the messes we’ve made, the dirt under their nails and between their toes, or the ice cream dripping of their chins. Just enjoy it all! When they’re done making these messes and having their fun, we’re steps away from a plumbed, vintage, clawfoot tub ready to wash away all the evidence. And you know what? I’m gonna photograph that too cause kids LOVE the bath, and I love images of moms snuggling their babies in those baths! As a bonus, on sweltering Georgia days, a cool bath is a welcomed reward! Rinse off that sweat too!

Maternity sessions do not need to be stressful or overly planned or thought out. They can be beautiful even when you’re your most natural self. Gorgeous images don’t require a team of hair and makeup artists. Be yourself, act yourself, feel yourself and we will create magic!

When you’re ready to collaborate, I’m ready to be your guide. As you all know, these days go by so quick. Waiting for the PERFECT time to take your photos will never happen. Now is the perfect time- just the way you are. The worst thing that can happen, is you put the photos off and put the photos off until you sadly realize you’ve missed the chance entirely. Don’t let that be the case. As Eudora Welty once wrote (yes, I am currently obsessed with her work) “a snapshot keeps a moment from running away”. Let’s not let these moments run away. You with me? Find me below on the gram or shoot me an email.
